Brake pads play a very important role in the automobile braking system and are the key to ensuring the safe driving of the automobile. The replacement cycle is determined according to the service life, friction coefficient and braking performance of the brake pads. The general service life is about 4-5 years, and the friction coefficient is between 0.4 and 0.5. When the service life exceeds 3 years, the friction coefficient of the new brake pad will decrease, resulting in poor braking effect, so the brake pad replacement cycle should be determined according to the actual situation. For different models and brake system types, the replacement cycle is different. At present, there are generally two types of mainstream models on the market, which are iron sheet type and steel sheet type. Among them, the iron sheet type generally uses high-tech materials such as forged composite brake pads and ceramic brake pads; while the steel sheet type generally uses ordinary materials; and most domestic models use front and rear drum brake systems.
1. Look at the wear
The thickness of the brake pad reaches the limit value, that is, 4mm, and it is safe to replace the brake disc (pad). If the thickness of the brake pad exceeds twice the standard, it needs to be replaced. If the thickness is only smoothed and the limit value is not reached, then there is no need to replace the brake disc (pad), just replace it with a new one. Look at the specific situation of your car to decide what type of brake pads to change. For example: if the car is a front disc rear drum brake system. Then it will take longer than the original factory to replace the brake pads, otherwise the braking effect will be very poor. But if it is a rear brake disc (pad), then it is necessary to consider replacing the brake pads with shorter life and low friction coefficient.
2. Choose different brake fluids according to road conditions
The brake shoe needs to be fully mixed with the brake fluid, so that the brake fluid can fully rub against the brake pads to achieve the best braking effect. In the case of poor road conditions, it is recommended to replace it with high-performance brake oil. Brake disc: Due to the different shape, size and material of the brake disc, the braking efficiency of the brake disc is different, and the brake fluid of different specifications needs to be replaced. Generally, the brake fluid should be replaced after more than one year of use.
3. Brake pads corresponding to different types of brake discs
Brake disc diameter (mm): The diameter of the brake disc in the brake system of a general vehicle has a great relationship with the braking efficiency. The smaller the diameter, the more likely it is to generate high temperature, which will heat up and soften during long-term braking, affecting safety; Brake disc thickness (mm): Under normal circumstances, the thickness of the brake pads used in vehicles will be within the standard range, generally less than or equal to 2mm. (3) Caliper position: Some models also have a caliper position in the brake system. This position is mainly to help the driver adjust the height and angle of the brake pedal.
4. Check whether the brake fluid is sufficient
The water content of the general brake oil is 10% to 15%. The brake fluid will have moisture precipitation during use, and this moisture will circulate to the brake cylinder together with the brake fluid, which will cause the moisture content of the brake fluid to exceed the specified value. Therefore, if you feel that the braking distance becomes longer when braking, check whether there is water precipitation. (Normally, when the water content of the brake fluid exceeds the specified value, it will affect the braking effect). Generally, if the water content of the brake oil is too high, it should be replaced in time to ensure safe driving.
